This is a pottery creamer, cream pitcher or milk jug in mottoware or motto ware made by Longpark pottery, Torquay Devon, England 1930-1940s.

The creamer has the carved motto Wookey Hole Help Yourself To Cream with a traditional cottage design and measures 3.25 inches high by 3.25 in diameter.

Wookey Hole is an ancient sink hole cavern near the Cheddar Gorge entering the Cotswolds.

A very picturesque place and interesting geologically...as well as lots of stories and legends, including Cheddar Man, one of the oldest humans in Britain.

We love the area. The mottoware jug is in excellent used vintage condition. So cute and collectible.

Famous and fun motto ware or mottoware has been manufactured in the south of England from the 1860s until the factories closed in the 1960s. It is usually of red clay decorated with bright glazes, cottages and mottos or sayings that run the gamut from proverbs and sound advice to nearly outrageous. Always fun and different and very collectible!
