This is indeed a unique piece. Made of vulcanite, this vesta matchsafe/case was made to commemorate the death in 1901 of England's beloved Queen Victoria This event plunged the nation into deep mourning. The vesta has small brass rivets/hinges and is in excellent condition, the detail still extremely sharp. There is a slight crack which is not surprising considering the age and fragility of material. It measures approxi, ately 2.25X1.25X.5 inches. |
