This is an antique victorian silver plated sugar sifting spoon with a lovely and detailed molded handle. A Victorian idea, sugar sifting spoons or sieve spoons were part of a well dressed table. Early in Queen Victoria's reign sugar came in a block and had to be nipped off and pounded, and then was sifted through the holes in the bowl of the sifting spoon onto muffins or pancakes at the tea table. They are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $8.50.
