This is a fabulous sterling silver scarab or beetle pendant & sterling chain made in the early 1970's for the King Tutankhamun Egyptian exhibit at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco in 1974. This scarab, a symbol of eternal life in egyptian mythology, measures 1.5 inches long including the bale by .5 inches wide. The sterling silver twisted rope chain measures 18 inches long. The back has a cartouche or name capsule, and other carved marks that look like hieroglyphics. A great decorative piece of wearable history & art. |
