This is a wonderful mid Victorian English cheese dish or cheese dome made in England between 1871 and 1880 by Edge, Malkin & Co. of Burslem, Staffordshire England. The design is Aesthetic Movement or English Arts & Crafts and features flowers, birds & a village by a lake. The underplate measures 9 inches in diameter and the dome, with a molded basketweave design border & beehive shape gilt finial (no gilt loss) measures 6 inches in diameter by 5 inches high. The underplate shows the usual staining from the oil in the cheese (which can be cleaned but I haven't to show patina & original condition) but no chips or cracks, only age crazing. The lid has a small hairline shown in the photo. A wonderful victorian survival and very decorative piece.
