| This is an exquisitely beautiful hallmarked English sterling silver card case we recently brought home from England. The all over heavily embellished repousse castle design different scene each side)is marked with the lion for sterling, head, date letter for 1835 & the anchor for Birmingham. The maker's mark is T&P; for Taylor & Parry, a well known maker of exceptional quality small silver items during the second quarter of the 19th century. The card case measures just over 3.75 inches high by 2.5 inches wide by 3/8 inches deep. The design is fabulous even to the ducks & man rowing in the lake in front of the castle. There is a small dent in the castle type lid corner. The hinge works well but could use a bit of tightening. The case is truly a work of art & example of the skill of 19th centruy English silversmiths. |
