This carpet ball or carpet bowl is over 100 years old and is of original hard fired clay. The design is an interesting one of red, green & white sponge painting. It is about 3 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy. The condition is good--used--with a repaired area. There are also the usual tiny circle dents where the ball has been hit hard.Carpet balls were developed during the reign of Queen Victoria--1832-1901--as a form of outdoor bowls to be played in the parlor. Original balls are very hard to find. These took me over a year. Currently they are valued not only as victoriana but as a decorative accent. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $10.15.
