4199b - Carpet Ball Antique Original Clay Red Green
|

|
| This carpet ball or carpet bowl is over 100 years old and is of original hard fired clay. The design is an interesting one of red, green & white sponge painting. It is about 3 inches in diameter. It is quite heavy. The condition is very good. It has been used, but as these balls go it's in very good condition. There are the usual tiny circle dents where the ball has been hit hard. Carpet balls were developed during the reign of Queen Victoria--1832-1901--as a form of outdoor bowls to be played in the parlor. Original balls are very hard to find. These took me over a year. Currently they are valued not only as victoriana but as a decorative accent. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $11.00. |
