This white stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made in the late Victorian period and dates to the 1890-1900s. The pie vent was made in Staffordshire England most probably and I got it in the Staffordshire England Potteries district district recently. The pie vent measures 2.75 inches high by 2 inches in diameter and is in good condition, but does have very old stress lines & a flaw from manufacturing at the steam vent. There is some light staining inside as it was obviously used and 2 tiny manufacturers flaws--1 inside from a bit of mineral discolouring during firing. A fun piece. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
