This is a cute little black transfer or transferware butter pat or butter chip from England. It measures 3 inches in diameter with a scalloped rim. They were made 1880-1900 by Mellor and Taylor in one of 3 factories in Staffordshire, England of semi porcelain. I brought it home from there recently. It has a small amount of discoloration from age and a bit of crazing but no chips. A very cute place for your butter or your tea bag or sushi!
