This funny looking thing is an antique English brass toast fork or toasting fork that I brought home recently from England. The toast fork kitchen gadget features a finial of an owl the symbol of wisdom. The toast fork is stamped England. It was used (as it's name implies) to toast bread (or crumpets) before the open flame of a fire or even an the bar of an electric fire. They are really quite nostalgic as well as ornamental. I suppose it would work with your fireplace! Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $9.50.
