Wagon Wheel Horse Brass Geometric England Souvenir 1890s Ornament
This horse brass or harness medallion is the design of a wagon wheel or cart wheel and is from the 1890s. The design is pictured in famous Victorian caster Thos Crosbie's 1895 catalog.
The souvenir horse brass measures 3.25 inches high by 3 inches in diameterand is an excellent casting with slightly concave back.
Horse brasses were developed in the 17th century to decorate and identify draft horses and are a popular and versatile collectible and decor item today. I have even seen Christmas trees with horse brasses used as ornaments.
