Anglo Indian Sadeli Micro Mosaic Jewelry Box Edwardian Era Ruched Velvet Persian

This is an intricate hand made Sadeli micro mosaic Anglo-Indian lidded box or jewelry box made in India during the Raj period of British rule or Khatam from Persia...the jury is out... and shipped to England for sale as a very popular Bombay Box during the Edwardian era, or late Victorian era.

I acquired it in Gloucester, England. The box measures 1.25 inches high by just shy of 7 inches long by 4.5 inches wide and is an intricately made micro mosaic of copper, brass, wood, bone on a wood base with a magenta pink velvet interior and ruched velvet countersunk lid lining. The interior bottom has a glass plate over moire silk.

The lid has a brass finial. The box is in very good +++ used antique condition with no missing mosaic pieces, some fading to velvet interior lining edges, 1 1/4 inch edge banding on lid corner missing. There was a shellac of sometime applied to the lid which is gradually disintegrating and flaking off with age.

This is an all hand made piece.
