Plate Biarritz Rural Scenes Clarice Cliff A J Wilkinson 1940s Rectangular Transferware
SKU: 7830-152
This is a rarely seen rectangular plate in The Biarritz shape in the Rural Scenes design by Clarice Cliff designed between 1947 and 1958 for Royal Staffordshire A.J. Wilkinson, England in polychrome brown transfer or transferware.
The design is in brown hand colored brown transferware on a creamy white ironstone.
The large ironstone dinner or serving plate measures 10.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches high.
Rural Scenes is a known design by Clarice Cliff as noted in the guides and Clarice Cliff website and this is especially nice with the hand painted over transfer design.
The unusually shaped plate, also a Clarice Cliff invention, has the British Registry date for 1934.
The plate is in excellent used vintage condition with no chips or cracks or gold wear. There is minor and normal glaze crazing.
A neat and very large piece from a very collectible designer and company.
