This is indeed a bit of history. At Christmas in 1914, Princess Mary, the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, sent chocolate boxes to all the British troops serving at the various battle fronts of World War I. The embossed brass box measures 7/8 of an inch deep, 4.75 inches by 2.75 inches. It has a profile of the Princess, her initials and a dedication Christmas 1914. Around the edges are the names of the various battle fronts. A box like this was featured on an episode of Antiques Roadshow and appraised for $200 to $300 dollars. This is in very good condition. No chocolates left. Sorry! Shipping in the US by USPS Priority Insured is $9.50. |
