This is a great late victorian darning egg or darner made of ebonized wood I recently brought home from England. Egg shaped darners are relatively uncommon in England where the English preferred a mushroom shape. This darner might have been made in the USA and imported to England. The darning egg measures 5.75 inches long by 2 inches in diameter and was obviously well used. It shows scratches where the needle grazed the egg during darning. It dates 1890-1910. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured with tracking is $7.60.
