This is a fabulous English ceramic pie bird or pie vent or pie funnel I brought back from England. The little bird has incised eyes and measures 3.75 inches high by 2 inches wide. He is unmarked but dates to the 1920s. It has obviously been used and is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The only flaws are 2 tiny places where the glaze was missed in manufacturing. Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over. This is a great example of an English pie making essential to vent the crust during baking. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured with tracking is $8.50.
