This little motto ware or mottoware dish was made by the Dartmouth Pottery of Devon, England and bears the following motto: Waste Not Want Not and the traditional cottage. It measures 3.75 inches in diameter by 1.5 inches high. This little Torquay motto dish was made in the 1920s. It is in very good condition and very collectible. This famous and fun pottery has been manufactured in the south of England from the 1870's until the factories closed in the 1960's. It is usually of red clay decorated with bright glazes, cottages and mottos or sayings that run the gamut from proverbs and sound advice to nearly outrageous.
