Circa: 1880 Condition: used Size: 4 inches high by 3 inches long by 1.25 inches wide Color: white, pink, yellow Country of Origin: Germany Manufacturer: unknown German or English maker
This is an antique porcelain spill vase that was given as a prize at a fair or carnival 1880-1890s and can be called a fairing. The vase was made to hold spills which are rolled up pieces of paper used to light fires and lamps. Good old victorian recycling. Spill vases were most often kept on the mantlepiece. Fairings were quite popular and are still to be found in England. Some were made in England also, but the German factories produced the most. This spill vase fairing is unmarked and most probably German. The spill vase has rose decals and gold trim and measures 4 inches high by 3 inches long by 1.25 inches wide. The spill vase is in very good condition but does have gold wear. A neat item. |
