This is an antique English Tunbridge Ware treen egg cup made in Tunbridge Wells, England 1880-1900. The Tunbridge Ware egg cup, sometime spelled Tunbridge measures 3 inches high and is 1.75 inches in diameter. Tunbridge Ware is a painstaking inlay work with colored and dyed wood pieces put together in a pattern then sliced and inlaid into a wood object. They are incredibly labor intensive and very difficult to find. The wood of this eggcup is a medium dark wood and the inlay work features green accent pieces. The egg cup is all hand made, turned and inlaid and is in excellent condition with no pieces missing. Wonderful. From an English egg cup collection I acquired on my last visit.
