Circa: 1861 Condition: used Size: each .5 inch high by 3.5 inches in diameter Color: gold Country of Origin: United Kingdom Manufacturer: unknown English maker
This is a pair of repousse brass dishes made in 1861 as a memorial on the death of Prince Albert, beloved husband of Queen Victoria of England. Each of the brass dishes measures each .5 inch high by 3.5 inches in diameter and could have been used as ashtrays or just ornaments. They could also function as ring holders. The head of a middle aged Queen Victoria is on one with the phrase Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria which is in excellent condition with just a mild dent to a rim. The other has a crown and funeral wreath with the words Born Aug. 20, 1819, Married Feb. 10, 1840 Died Dec. 14, 1861. Queen Victoria remained in mourning for Prince Albert until her death in 1901. This dish has several rim dents and tiny base rim dents. A rare memorial tribute to the love of Queen Victoria's life. |
