This is a Royal Vienna portrait rack plate or charger of the Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon which dates to 1880-1900. The beautiful, highly embellished plate is a quite large, 10.75 inches in diameter, a charger or just a cabinet plate, and bears the beehive or shield mark under the glaze of Royal Vienna factory, Austria and was manufactured around 1880-1900 in what is called the Vienna period. Although the portrait is not identified, it is a portrait of the Empress Josephine and the letter N is incorporated into the border. It has exquisite detail in heavily applied enamel paints and gold, with a beaded enamel border and heavy gold trim with a gold overlay laurel leaf border. There are no chips, cracks or restorations. A fabulous piece. |
