Biscuit Barrel Dudson Blue Jasper Dip Cookie Jar Muses Mid Victorian Hinged Lid
This is a Dudson, England antique jasper or jasperware dark blue dip biscuit barrel or biscuit jar with a glazed white interior that was made 1860-1880 in the late Victorian era.
The biscuit or cookie jar measures 5.5 inches high without the lid by 5.5 inches in diameter and has silver plate hinged lid that is unmarked with an engraved design and fancy spire finial.
The biscuit jar or barrel has the applied white jasper classical motif of Muses and is marked with the impressed letters W L and another and inscribed 852 on the bottom. The jar is easily identified as Dudson with the correct marks and numbering system.
The biscuit barrel or cookie jar is in very good +++ used vintage condition with the only flaw a very tiny blue fleck missing as seen in the photo, and minor staining in the interior due to the oil in the biscuits or cookies stored within for decades.
It is a fabulous antique mid to late Victorian piece of Dudson, a pottery who rivaled Wedgwood in superior workmanship.
