Copeland Plate Luster Transferware 1880s Bouquet Jar Antique Oriental English Ironstone
This is an antique hand colored on transferware plate made by W. T. Copeland, England and marked for 1882 in an oriental design influenced by China Export china.
The 7.25 in diameter plate has a black transferware oriental design of a jar holding a floral bouquet and a border of Chinese symbols and a basket work or lattice design, a variation on the traditional Peony design.
The chinoiserie design has been hand colored and a metallic luster has been added to the jar and around the border designs.
The plate has the impressed Copeland mark and the date code for 1882.
The plate is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks but with a few minor utensil marks and wear to the red rim.
A wonderful example of the Victorian love of the Chinese designs.
