English Antique Kniferest Faceted Glass Barbell Large Carving 1890s Victorian Dining
This is a Victorian era faceted and beveled glass English carving knife rest in the shape of a large barbell with faceted ball ends.
The knife rest or carving knife holder measures 4.5 inches long and is 1.5 inches in diameter at the end with a thick middle bar and dates to 1890-1910.
The cutlery holder has no cracks but does have 2 tiny fleabite chips on the facets from use and a shallow chip on one end.
Knife rests were an important part of a Victorian or Edwardian table service and propped your dinner knife up to keep it off the tablecloth.
They are becoming a fashionable addition to dining and tea tables today again.
