This motto ware or mottoware dish or tray was made by the Dartmouth Pottery of Devon, England and bears the following motto: A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss and the traditional cottage.
The desk or vanity tray or pin dish measures 5 inches long by 3 inches wide by .75 of an inch high.Would make a great lemon dish or teabag holder on the tea table too!
This Torquay motto ware dish or tray was made in the 1930-1940s and is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks and only normal mild crazing consistent with age and glaze.
This famous and fun type of pottery has been manufactured in the south of England from the 1870s until the factories closed in the 1960s.
It is usually of red clay decorated with bright glazes, cottages and mottos or sayings that run the gamut from proverbs and sound advice to nearly outrageous. Always fun and different and very collectible!
