Pie Vent Funnel English Nutbrown Ironstone Vintage 1950s Dessert Baking Pie Bird
This creamy white stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made by the Nutbrown company of England and has the British Registry date of 1949.
The Nutbrown company has been making pie vents in England for 50 years or more.
The vintage stoneware pie vent measures 3 inches high by 2.25 inches in diameter.
The pie vent was almost certainly made in Staffordshire England and I got it in the Potteries district recently. A fun piece. And practical!
Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
It is very fun, useful and collectible.
